I am at home and at ease speaking in any setting. I have delivered keynote speeches, workshops, and commencement addresses for small, informal groups up to audiences of five thousand. My approximately 150 appearances a year are at venues such as fund raisers, corporations, professional associations, schools, colleges, and libraries.
I can tailor a talk to a specific group’s interest or professional orientation (for example, “The Tooth and Nothing But the Tooth” for dental groups). My most popular talks are:
- A Tribute to Teachers
- The Gift of Age
- An Evening of Language and Laughter
- Conan the Grammarian
- Confessions of a Word Lover
- Fascinating Facts About Our Presidents
- Pun and Games
- The English Language Means Business
- The Play of Words in the Classroom
- The Write Way
My talks and workshops about language have attracted a great number of unsolicited testimonials. In 1994, members of the International Platform Association, the oldest speaking organization in the U.S. of A., awarded me first place among their showcase speakers. In 2002, I was awarded the Golden Gavel by Toastmasters International.
I don’t provide a fee schedule because honoraria are always negotiable. If you would like more information or wish to discuss a possible speaking engagement, please contact me by e-mail or phone me at (858) 549-6788.
